PROFESSOR MARY O’KANE APPOINTED CHAIR OF PLANNING ASSESSMENT COMMISSION
Minister for Planning Anthony Roberts today announced Professor Mary O’Kane AC as the new Chair of the Planning Assessment Commission.
Professor Mary O’Kane AC is currently the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer and an experienced company director. She has been appointed for three years and will succeed the current Chair, Ms Lynelle Briggs AO.
“Professor O’Kane has done an outstanding job for NSW as Chief Scientist and has given high quality, evidence-based, independent advice on how to address policy problems that involve engineering or science, Mr Roberts said.
“Her work has included coal seam gas, sea level rise, road tunnel air quality and coal dust emissions.
“I’d also like to thank Lynelle Briggs for her leadership over the past three years as the PAC assessed a record volume of State Significant Development and State Significant Infrastructure.
“The independence and rigor with which the PAC addresses its role means proponents and the community can have great confidence in the planning system.
“I believe Mary O’Kane will continue to deliver the independence, sound advice and spirit of investigation required for such an important role.”
Professor O’Kane will commence her role on 1February 2018.
