NAN AND POP – I THINK YOU’RE TOPS

Wednesday, 13 June 2018

Selfless seniors work tirelessly in our community volunteering their time to support their families and sharing wisdom with the next generation, and it’s time we remind them that the difference they make does not go unnoticed.

Grandparents in Lane Cove like their compatriots across the State, spend almost 11 hours each week providing unpaid, informal care for more than 280,000 children.

Grandparents Day 2018

The Member for Lane Cove, Anthony Roberts, says “NSW Grandparents Day, which falls in October every year, is a chance for us to recognise the important work they do to strengthen our communities and say thank you for their immense contributions.”

“Nominations have now opened for the 2018 NSW Grandparent of the Year Awards, which celebrate the valuable contributions grandparents and seniors make to their families and our communities. I urge everybody to consider the tireless efforts of older people in their lives and nominate them for an award.”

Mr Roberts says, “this year the NSW Government has also offered $200,000 in grants to support community events. These offer a great day out for the whole family, and a wonderful way to show your grandparents how much you appreciate them.”

“Meanwhile, the Grandparents Day Photography Competition aims to inspire the next generation of budding photographers to spend time with their grandparents and capture special moments and memories together.”

“It doesn’t matter whether you are an amateur or a professional photographer – the competition is an opportunity to build relationships between younger and older generations. I encourage young people to learn from their grandparents’ experiences and advice while sharing their own lives.”

“I know that grandparents don’t put in the work that they do to for the recognition, but this is your chance to highlight somebody special who has made a real impact in our community,” he said.

“Let’s show our grandparents how much we appreciate them this Grandparents Day.”

“2018 Grandparents Day will take place on Sunday 28 October 2018. Nominations for the 2018 NSW Grandparent of the Year Award are open until 7 September 2018,” concluded Mr Roberts.
