Member for Lane Cove, Anthony Roberts MP, has congratulated Councillor Deborah Hutchens on her success at the 2018 Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government.

Mr Roberts said the awards recognised the outstanding contribution and achievements of women in local government in NSW.

He congratulated Councillor Hutchens on being nominated for the Women in Local Government for the category of female elected representative of a NSW council.

“At Lane Cove Council there are many talented and inspiring women who make their workplaces better and make a genuine difference in our local community,” Mr Roberts said.

“I’d like to personally thank Councillor Hutchens for the work she does daily at Lane Cove Council to make this a better place to live.

“Councillor Hutchens is also setting a fine example for other women working or seeking to work in local government and reinforcing that these are promising and rewarding careers. Congratulations on all your success.”

The Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government are an annual celebration of the contribution women make to local government across NSW.

In addition to recognising the significant contribution of award winners, they also aim to encourage more women to take on leadership roles in local government in NSW.

The awards are a joint initiative between the Minister for Local Government and the Minister for Women and recognise the achievements of women in metropolitan councils and regional/rural councils across five categories: Elected Representative, GM/Senior Staff Member, Non-Senior Staff Member, Women in Non-Traditional Role, and Women in Traineeships or Apprenticeships.

The awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, 7 March at NSW Parliament House’s Preston Stanley Room, named in honour of Millicent Preston-Stanley – the first woman elected to the NSW Legislative Assembly in 1925.
