The Northern Youth Symphonic Wind of Artarmon and Lane Cove Concert Band Inc will hone their skills and reach new audiences in 2019 thanks to a share of $27,000 in funding announced today by Minister Anthony Roberts and Minister for the Arts Don Harwin.

The local ensembles are amongst a number of community brass and concert bands across the state sharing 2019 Community Band Development Grants Program funding from the NSW Government administered by the Band Association of NSW (BANSW).

The Northern Youth Symphonic Wind of Artarmon and Lane Cove Concert Band Inc will use their funding of $1600 and $1400 respectively to collaborate with local composers, run workshops and hold a special concert.

Minister for the Arts Don Harwin said that volunteer bands play a great role in building local community spirit across NSW regions, and are a familiar placement in many areas.

“These bands bring together committed and passionate musicians to create the reliable fixtures that we see across so many communities in the State.

“Investment into skills development, workshops, concerts, recordings and guest appearances helps us to keep this enthusiasm alive, rewarding volunteer dedication to create impassioned music with more excitement than ever,” Mr Harwin said.

Mr Roberts added, “These ensembles are a much-loved part of the Lane Cove community so it’s fantastic that they are being recognised in this way. It’s great to know that they can improve and extend their offering through this funding and I look forward to hearing more from the band throughout the year.”

Formed in 1895, BANSW is one of the oldest and longest serving volunteer organisations in the country and has been proudly supported by the NSW Government for more than 25 years.
