| Stop Labor Selling Lane Cove Police Station |
At the end of 2007 I was informed that the Lane Cove Police Station would close and be sold off early in 2008. There was no consultation and the decision was handed down by the NSW State Labor Government as final. Over the past four years I have made many representations on behalf of our community to successive NSW Police Ministers regarding the lack of a police presence in the Lane Cove area. I have citied cases of bashings, robberies, drugs and vandalism and have each time been told that the Chatswood Police Local Area Command would respond. Unfortunately like most Police Stations in NSW they are under resourced. The NSW Liberal/National Coalition wants to see a locally-based, locally-led Police Force where Police regularly work out of local Police Stations, get to know the community and most importantly get to know those who seek to create trouble and commit crime. We need more Police Officers on the streets and in our neighbourhoods – not less. I can assure you that I will continue to fight the closing of the station and I will support Lane Cove Council’s proposal to purchase and keep the building as a community asset, in the hope that one day we will see Police return. |
