| Victoria Road Upgrade: Full of Empty Promises |

Documents revealing the long-awaited upgrade of Victoria Road will be three years late proves the state government’s $50 billion dollar infrastructure budget is full of empty promises, Anthony Roberts MP, Member for Lane Cove said today. Mr Roberts said an internal RTA memo says a skills shortage will push the upgrade of one of Sydney’s most congested roads and the duplication of Iron Cove Bridge back, from 2009 to as late as 2012. “The Iemma government is making promises it knows it can’t keep,” Mr Roberts said. “It took just one day for the truth to come out: the Iemma government simply can not follow through with the billions of dollars worth of infrastructure projects it has promised the people of New South Wales. They must have known of this skills shortage. It is all now fairyland stuff. “This government is better at making false promises than delivering important infrastructure. The Roads Minister claims the government’s committed to the project. But looking at it’s track record, like the Spit Bridge debacle, that’s unlikely. “Not only has the Iemma government let down the people of the northern beaches, now he’s done it to the people of the inner west. “Now the Roads Minister is trying to spin out of his problems by revealing there are now NINE alternate options for the duplication of the Iron Cove Bridge. “No wonder Mr Roozendaal tried to block the Liberal/Nationals Coalition from gaining access to papers on the project a few weeks ago. Conscience has obviously got the better of him.” |
