“Children in the Lane Cove Electorate are being put at risk because this NSW Government will not allow them to travel safely by Ferry”, Anthony Roberts MP, Member for Lane Cove said. “Requests for Ferry Passes are consistently being rejected in favour of Bus Passes which in some cases mean children must travel on two buses, often changing at the busiest times and day”, said Mr Roberts “Hunters Hill parents of children attending schools such as St Aloysius’ College or Loreto Kirribilli, are being told it is faster and safer for their children to travel by bus, changing at either Sydney CBD or Chatswood Interchange. “It is ridiculous to say the trip is faster or that the children would be safer travelling by bus, when they board the ferry, usually under the supervision of a parent and alight almost at the school, often with a teacher present and in a quarter of the time. “When children’s safety is put at risk because of costs, something needs to be changed. “The granting of Ferry Passes have for some time been inconsistent, one child in a street is granted a pass, whilst another refused. “In one family, the older sibling has been issued with a pass, whilst the younger has been refused. Said Mr Roberts “This inconsistency is once gain proof that this government cannot get it right. “What is more important is that they are putting children’s’ safety at risk. “I call on the Minister for Transport, David Campbell MP, to protect our children and ensure they can travel quickly and safely to and from school, Anthony Roberts said. |
