NSW Liberal Leader Barry O'Farrell has announced Lane Cove MP Anthony Roberts is to join Parliament's longest oversight body - the powerful Public Accounts Committee as part of the Liberal Party’s efforts to hold the Iemma Labor Government to account. "As the Chairman of our Waste Watch committee, Anthony has done a great job exposing Iemma Labor Government waste and mismanagement and it's fitting he add to that role membership of the Public Accounts Committee," Mr O'Farrell said. "First established in 1902, the Public Accounts Committee is one of Parliament's oldest and most influential committees whose key role is to scrutinise the Executive arm of Government, by following up Auditor-General's reports and recommending efficiency improvements," he said. "As well as his Public Accounts Committee and Waste Watch duties, Anthony has also been appointed Parliamentary Secretary for the NSW Liberal Leader and I look forward to working closely with him in the role. "Holding Morris Iemma and Labor to account for their policy failures and broken promises is a vital role for the Liberal/National Opposition and Anthony will play a key role," Mr O'Farrell said. Mr Roberts said he looked forward to the challenge of keeping the public abreast of Labor's wasteful administration of the State. "Whether it's Labor Ministers hiring multiple helicopters to travel to a single media event, transport infrastructure budget blowouts costing taxpayers one million dollars a day or the never-ending recruitment of more spin doctors – I will continue to highlight Morris Iemma's failure to spend taxpayers' dollars wisely," Mr Roberts said. "Morris Iemma's $25 million dollar payment to delay road changes associated with the Lane Cove Tunnel until after the election simply shows how much taxpayers' money Labor is prepared to waste," he said. "While I expect to be kept very busy, I look forward to holding Morris Iemma and Labor to account for their continued waste and mismanagement," Mr Roberts said. |
