Morris Iemma has delivered an election-year Budget that shows the Labor Government is still in denial about the rundown of the NSW economy, the State Member for Lane Cove Anthony Roberts MP said today. “This is just another pre-election budget from a tired Labor Government that attempts to fix the headlines and does nothing to solve the problems of Ryde and Lane Cove,” Mr Roberts said."Courtesy of Morris Iemma, NSW will be heading into serious deficit next year and will borrow $7.6 billion before next year’s state election," he said. “This is more bad news for the people of Ryde and Lane Cove. Morris Iemma has given NSW the highest taxes, the lowest economic growth and now a $700 million budget deficit. What Mr Iemma has not given us is the answer to the question everyone wants answered: where has all the money gone?” “Despite the Government promising to spend more than $1.2 million in 2005/2006 on Ryde Ambulance station they only spent $280,000 – no wonder it is now going to take two years longer to complete and cost $340,000 in excess of initial estimates. “In last year’s budget the State Government promised Ryde Hospital’s Perioperative Unit would be completed this year, but this budget reveals the Labor Government is going to keep the people of Ryde waiting until 2007 for these essential services. “The budget documents also reveal the work on the Ryde Bus Depot has blown out by $780,000 to $1.39 million – nearly a doubling in cost. "This Budget will see Morris Iemma continue as the highest-taxing Premier in Australia – with the Labor Government raking in a record tax take. "The story of the NSW Budget is one of denial, deficit and debt. "And the Labor Government is putting yesterday's problems on our grandchildren's credit card through $7.6 billion of borrowing before the election," Mr Roberts said. |
