Anthony Roberts MP, Member for Lane Cove is calling on groups and individuals to take part in the annual Clean Up Australia Day. Mr Roberts said Clean Up Australia Day, now in it’s 20th year, would take place on Sunday 7 March 2010. “Keeping the local environment clean reflects the community’s pride. “I strongly encourage local groups and individuals to take part in Clean Up Australia Day because it not only makes the town more appealing to visitors but it also makes a nicer place for its residents. “Event organisers estimate that Clean Up Australia Day volunteers have spent approximately 24 million hours over the past 19 years, making our environment a cleaner place to live. “Glass bottles from alcoholic drinks, plastic chip and confectionary wrappers, plastic drink bottles and metal have been named as the top litter items across Australia.” Mr Roberts said two new Clean Up Days have also been added to this year’s agenda. “Business Clean Up Day will be held on Tuesday 2 March 2010 and Schools Clean Up day is scheduled for Friday 5 March 2010. “These are great initiatives to become involved in. “These events allow groups to work together to clean up our environment and perhaps be more aware of the importance of the event.” |
