NSW residents will miss out on a rare opportunity to see the Victoria Cross Medal exhibition as it tours Australia because of another failure of the NSW Labor Government, Shadow Minister for Volunteering and the Arts Anthony Roberts said today.
Due to a refurbishment of the Victoria Cross Medal exhibition at the Australian War Memorial, Australians – all except those living in NSW and Tasmania - can see these medals first-hand in a once-in-a -lifetime opportunity as they tour the nation’s capital cities, Mr Roberts said. “Predicably, the State Labor Government has failed to secure the exhibit for Sydney,” Mr Roberts said. “Even though NSW can proudly boast one of the highest numbers of Victoria Cross winners, including the very latest recipient, the State Labor Government has once again been asleep at the wheel,” he said. “It has failed to bring this unique exhibit to NSW so its citizens can have the rare opportunity to view these medals in their home state. ”This just goes to show that not only can’t the incompetent NSW Labor Government deliver on hospitals and transport, they can’t even deliver on a national tour of Victoria Cross Medals,” he said. The Victoria Cross is the highest form of recognition that can be bestowed on a soldier for remarkable and unselfish courage in the service of others. There is no greater single honour, award, or accolade. AWM Director Steve Gower said the tour was a great opportunity for more Australians to see the medals, and that: "The entire nation draws pride and inspiration from these brave men". He continued, stating: "It's an opportunity for younger Australians - particularly by reading about those stories - to better understand not only the great courage and bravery of those who won them, but also the nature of the establishment of the ANZAC spirit so many years ago". “If only the NSW Labor Government could understand that,” Mr Roberts said. |
