Lane Cove West Public School

Lane Cove West Public School is situated on two hectares of parkland in the northern suburbs of Sydney, close to the Lane Cove River. The school opened in 1951 and has just undergone a major building program providing six new classrooms, toilet and laundry facilities, a kiln room and a large new Administration building. Upgrading of cricket nets and playground and garden facilities is also being undertaken at present.

Lane Cove West provides a stimulating learning environment for all students from kindergarten to Year 6. Our parents have high expectations and aspirations for their children and these are realised through the skill and dedication of our highly qualified teaching staff and are reflected in the quality learning outcomes achieved by our students.

The students at Lane Cove West Public School achieve excellence in State and National testing in literacy and numeracy and also in the University of NSW competitions in English, Mathematics, Writing, Spelling, Computers and Science. The very full school curriculum provides programs that cater for a wide range of student abilities, from the gifted and talented, to those requiring support and remediation.

The performing arts plays a very important role in the education of our students with opportunities to participate in dance, drama, school bands and choirs. Sport also plays an important role, with students given the opportunity to participate in PSSA inter-school sport and also in clinics in athletics, cricket, netball, gymnastics and lawn bowls.

The school encourages the development of leadership skills and supports an active Student Representative Council (SRC). Great importance is placed on the values of respect, responsibility, courtesy, self discipline and pride in self and school.

Our tight-knit community school values a high level of support from a very active parent body which works in partnership with staff to provide programs and resources of the highest quality for our students.
