Imagine…

Currambena EntranceIf your child felt like this about his or her school:

  • ‘When you graze your knee or miss your parents and cry about this, people just comfort you with all their love and you just feel really special about this. They don’t tease you.’ (Tessa)
  • ‘Hardly anyone at my high school likes school and I find that so surprising because I enjoyed Currambena so, so much. I’m happy to be in high school.’ (Laura)
  • ‘I like how we can make friends with our teachers, and they become like one of us in our class. You can build a relationship with your teacher.’ (Allegra)
  • ‘The teachers don’t let you take the easy option… but they let you have your own opinion.’ (Mikaela)
  • ‘It’s hard to believe that storywriting is work because it is so much fun’ (Luke)
  • ‘Basically everything you do at Currambena is fun.’ (Isabel)

It’s about the kids….

Established over 35 years ago, we have long been recognised as a leader in innovative educational thinking. At Currambena we deliver a holistic approach to learning, with the help of a flexible curriculum, which focuses on developing a child’s skills for life as well as high academic standards.

We are a democratic school based on the North Shore of Sydney that offers truly child centered education for both pre and primary school children.

Democracy

At Currambena all decisions that affect the school are made at class, school and council meetings. Each student, parent and staff member has an equal vote and together we share the responsibility for the quality of life at the school, building children’s understanding, pride and ownership of their environment.

Conflict resolution

In a world where bullying in schools is a well documented problem, Currambena has a different approach. We actively teach children the skills, strategies and language to resolve conflict effectively.

Child centredness

Our small class sizes and high teacher to student ratios enable us to work with each student to develop a challenging and inspiring program while providing freedom of choice that builds a deep and lasting love of learning.
